Llais Y Lle (Voice of Place) was a project funded by Arts Council Wales and led by Catrin Doyle, Bridie Doyle-Roberts and Becky Davies which focused on bridging the gap between the Welsh language and Pontypridd as a community. As an artist on the project, I was involved in several conversations about the Welsh language - which ranged from elitist attitudes to lack of belonging in Welsh spaces.
Part of my role on this project was helping develop bilingual inclusivity - assisting Catrin Doyle in developing 'Shwmraeg' or 'Wenglish': a way of speaking that was accessible for both Welsh and English speakers.
Geiriau a Symud
I collaborated with Einir Sion and Jen Angharad as part of an Arts Council Wales initiative exploring how the Welsh language can be integrated across different art forms - including dance, writing, and sculpture. I created a short movement improvisation inspired by obscure Welsh dictionary words, focusing not on their literal meanings but on the colours and sensations they evoke. I also contributed to the development of a Welsh-language circus vocabulary to support the facilitation of circus arts through Welsh.
