Spaces is an ongoing R&D project that blends circus, music, spoken word, and movement. Originating from themes of PTSD and dissociation, Spaces has gradually evolved into an exploration of the relationship between bodies in space and the meaning of a safe space - how these spaces are created, how people are invited into them, and how they can be destroyed.
The piece has been in development for a year. It began as a solo work performed at the Groundwork Collective and later at Our City Moves. Most recently, it underwent an R&D phase in December at the Dance House, in partnership with National Dance Wales. Participants included musicians Al Branston and Qaira Moore, as well as dance artists Lucie Powell and Emily Horler Valens.
